Week 2A

Build a Basic Responsive Site with CSS on www.creativeblog.com

As responsive design becomes more and more vital, companies and designers must design web pages to meet theses needs. This idea of responsive design has been booming because so many devices now-a-days can access the internet and browsers on their devices. For users it is important to be able to legibly read the content, in order to accomplish this task the layout for smaller devices must be redesigned to meet the needs of the consumer. It's nearly impossible to try and design layouts for each model and size of device. This is where responsive design get integrated because it can change the layout of a page by using media queries that recognize the changing in each device. It becomes frustrating for the user to zoom in and out because they cannot read of understand the content that doesn't have a responsive design.

Other things can can be frustrating for the user is when content is shown on the desktop but not on another device. Consumers find that if the content can be found on one device that it should be found on all of them or the content is not that important to be shown. May elements can be eliminated when moving down into smaller devices.

A way of keeping most of the important content is through flexible layout grids, images and media queries. The article gives a small tutorial on how to create this type of responsive design. The article next talks about how to fix the bugs that may come when trying to code a simple responsive design.

First Project

For our first project we are to research, design and develop an event website that has a responsive layout. That includes advanced interactively and functional interaction components. Event websites can either be an conference, festival, show or get-together. The event types can be commercial, nonprofit or community based.

Some events that inspired me were...

1.) Cupcake Challenge
www.cakeshow.org/cupcakechallenge.html

2.) Monotype Class w/ Nick Thayer
www.featherstoneart.org

3.) Slam'n Salm'n Derby
www. shipcreeksalmonderby.com

4.) 2nd Street Festival
www.visitphilly.com/events/philadelphia/2nd-street-festival/

5.) Portland Seafood and Wine Festival

Out of all of these ideas I'm leaning for the Cupcake challenge or the 2nd Street Festival because I feel as if I can get the most creative and both of their websites aren't showing the content to the fullest.
