In Class:
Today in class we went over Content Management Systems (CMS). CMS allows for multiple users to collaborate and publish content with ease. Such systems make it possible for content creators, editors and managers to update the content of a site without having to go through a developer. Some examples of CMS are blogger, concrete 5, wordpress and drupple. The core functions of CMS allow users to manage content, implement workflow, and automate basic features.
There are two different types of CMS systems. The first is Installed or Self Hosted that allows you to download files needed to run the CMS and install it into a web host on your own. Examples of self-hosted platforms would be (movabletype.com & expressengine.com). And the second type of system is Hosted, this hosted type of platform is one that is provided to it's customers as a service. In other terms it is built for you. Examples of hosted platforms would be tumbler and Pinterest.
Touch Points:
Based on our observations and conversations with our non-profit organizations we are required to pick out 2 to 3 touch points or call to actions that we would like to show on our webpage. From the phone call and observing the website I noticed that donations are a key factor on the website. For those that appreciate what Dancing Dreams does for the community they might simply donate to the dance studio. The donation button would give a link to all the different levels of donations and how they would support the studio. As for the second touch point I would like to show on my page is the registration process for the dancers. Currently they have no registration form on the page and the dancers have to call over the phone. As they are starting to obtain a large quantity of dancers this process can get difficult. As for the last touch point on the Dancing Dreams website would be the volunteer button. The volunteer button would allow student helpers to sign up as assistance teachers. There role within the dance company is supporting and working with the dancers. Each dancer has their own student helper. Without a student helper then the dancer wouldn't be able to perform to the best of their ability. As having dancers within the company is important, I think it's just as important for dance students that want to volunteer and help with the students to be called to action on the website.
